At a sweltering Adelaide Oval, captain Rovman Powell
won the toss and again chose to bowl as the unaltered West Indies attempted to
save the Twenty20 International Series against Australia.
Powell has adhered to the plan in what should have
been great batting conditions, despite his attack faltering after bowling first
in the series’ opening defeat in Hobart. At Bellerive Oval, the West Indies
gave up 213 for 7, but their playing team was nearly able to reach the goal.
After sustaining a shoulder injury in Hobart, bowling
all-rounder Sean Abbott, who made history in game one by becoming the first
Australian player to grab four catches in T20Is, will miss the rest of the
three-match series.
Spencer Johnson, a hometown hero who made his debut
late last year, has taken his position. The left-arm fast is playing in his
maiden international match in Australia. After taking four wickets against the
Sydney Sixers, Johnson was named player-of-the-final for the Brisbane Heat, who
won the BBL this season.
In Adelaide, West Indies will try to end a 31-year
losing streak to Australia in all formats.
