[Saba Sports News] Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri took a dig at England batter Joe Root, pointing at the lack of runs coming from bat in the ongoing Test series.
Root, who is inarguably one of England’s finest Test batters, has scored only 70 runs in five innings in the series against India so far with unconventional cricketing shots causing his undoing on most occasions.
Recently, in the first innings of the third Test, he was dismissed for 18 runs, reverse-scooping the ball off Jasprit Bumrah straight to the hands of the slip fielder.
Shastri talked about Root’s poor run with the bat, cheekily stating that the Englishman has contributed more with the ball.
“Joe Root has bowled 89 overs in this Test series, which is more than the runs he scored,” Shastri said as quoted while commentating.
Root came out to bat when England were 182/2 in the Rajkot Test. His dismissal at the score of 224 led to a collapse as the remaining six wickets fell within the next 100 runs. India entered the second innings with a lead of 126 runs.
