[Saba Sports News] A source has cleared India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan off all the accusations, arising because of his absence from Jharkhand’s final group fixture in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24.
As Kishan is currently on a break, he has been training in Baroda with his Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya.
During the time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah stated that the Indian players, who are not injured and playing in the ongoing Test series versus England, would have to make themselves available for their respective state sides for the final group fixtures of the Ranji Trophy.
Kishan did not obliged to the diktat as things further became muddy. Now, a source has come out to talk about the whole fiasco, revealing the reason behind Kishan’s break and when he will be making his comeback to competitive cricket.
As shared by the source, Kishan was distraught due to the World Cup heartbreak and wanted a break right after the tournament. The management asked him to stay with the team but just before the South Test series in December last year, mental fatigue caught up.
“He had never complained about it but the ODI World Cup final loss in Ahmedabad, like the billions in our country, has left him shattered. He wanted the break right after the tournament but was asked by the management to play and he did it without asking any questions. He tried to push his body and brain but mental fatigue caught up with him and it was only then that he requested a break,” a source said as quoted to The Indian Express.
The source further brushed aside the accusations on Kishan’s commitment to Ranji Trophy, labelling them as “rubbish”. It was revealed that he could return to action in the DY Patil T20 tournament if he gets the NOC from the BCCI.
“Ishan has always given priority to the Ranji Trophy. In the 2022-23 season, he was constantly travelling with the Indian cricket team but despite the hectic schedule he played a couple of Ranji Trophy games, and scored a century against Kerala, which helped him earn a place in India’s Test team. All these accusations are just rubbish.
“He will ask for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the board. He will be playing for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He wants to earn his spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad with a good outing in the IPL. It is a long road but the hunger to play cricket is back and he wants to play in all three formats.”
