In the Pakistan Super League on Wednesday, Islamabad
United defeated Karachi Kings by seven wickets to end a three-match losing
streak. The opening batsmen Colin Munro and Alex Hales combined for a century.
United secured their second victory with a commanding 172 for 3 in 18.3 overs
thanks to the scorching 82 off 47 balls struck by Munro and the 47 by Hales.
On a slow field in their opening home game of the season, the Kings’ top order
found it difficult to score until Kieron Pollard made an undefeated 48 to push
the total to 165 for 5. With two victories and two defeats, they have four
points.
Due to a familial obligation, Hales was unable to play
in United’s most recent match; nonetheless, his comeback strengthened the
two-time champions’ batting force. Munro and Hales shared a game-winning 108
runs off 69 balls as he scored his second consecutive half-century and mastered
pace and spin.
Tabraiz Shamsi was unable to settle down as Munro struck the wristspinner for
three consecutive sixes in his opening over, including an incredible reverse
sweep that just flew off the bat. Munro finished with eight fours and four
sixes.
When Munro attempted to cut the left-arm spinner, but
missed the delivery line and was caught on the back foot, Mohammad Nawaz (1-23)
trapped him leg before wicket. Agha Salman (25 not out) then completed the
chase in style with two massive sixes off Hasan Ali.
Earlier, United tied down Kings with spinners Imad Wasim (1-20) and Naseem Shah
(1-29). Tim Siefert (8) of New Zealand was stumped in his debut game of the
season, while Leus du Plooy (24) shown some aggression before he was dismissed
by offspinner Salman.
United had lost to Multan Sultans, Quetta Gladiators
and Peshawar Zalmi after its season-opening win against Lahore Qalandars. They
are in fourth place on the table with four points.
