[Saba Sports News] As Lewis Hamilton makes his move to Ferrari, the
Mercedes team is in search of a new star driver. Despite Max Verstappen’s
contract with Red Bull Racing being set to expire in 2028, he remains a highly
sought-after candidate for Mercedes. There are increasing indications that this
could become the most sensational transfer in Formula 1 since Hamilton’s move.
The reputable German media outlet, AMS, broke the news that Verstappen’s
contract includes an exit clause. This clause allows him to bypass the
contractual restrictions if his personal sponsor and Dr. Helmut Marko, the
advisor of Red Bull Racing, were to leave the team. Some media sources express
concern that the internal turmoil within Red Bull Racing could not only drive
away Verstappen but also potentially scare off their future engine partner Ford
and chief technical officer Adrian Newey. Certain fans have pointed out that F1
will introduce a new power unit in 2026, potentially eroding the technical
advantage currently held by Red Bull Racing. Additionally, Mercedes may
leverage their strong brand image and potential post-career opportunities as a
bargaining chip. Therefore, the possibility of Verstappen joining Mercedes
cannot be ruled out.
