Sports News] In a recent interview with the media, Andrea Stella, the team
leader of F1’s McLaren, discussed the team’s prospects for the upcoming season.
Stella openly admitted that while McLaren cannot currently match the
performance of Red Bull Racing and its driver Max Verstappen, they do not
consider him as their primary target. Instead, their focus is on closing the
gap with Ferrari and Mercedes, which they view as a more realistic and
achievable goal. Stella stated, “Our main focus is not on closing the gap
with Verstappen. I’m more concerned with narrowing the gap between us and
Mercedes and Ferrari, which is something we can realistically accomplish.”
This approach is seen as sensible by the editor, as it prioritizes attainable
objectives. It is worth noting that Stella, the current team leader of McLaren,
also holds the position of CEO of the McLaren team. He joined McLaren in 2015
after his tenure at Ferrari, initially serving as the head of race operations.
He was subsequently appointed as the team’s performance director in 2018 and
executive racing director in 2019.
