[Saba Sports News] At 52, Shaquille O’Neal is entertaining the idea of hitting the basketball court again, this time possibly in the BIG3 league. During a conversation on “The Big Podcast with Shaq” with guest Mario Chalmers, who currently plays in Ice Cube’s 3-on-3 league, the topic of O’Neal joining the league alongside Chalmers and Michael Beasley, both former Miami Heat players, came up.
O’Neal, who has considered the idea, mentioned his recent hip surgery as a potential hurdle. However, Chalmers suggested that O’Neal could play a less mobile role, mainly staying in the paint, which seemed to pique his interest.
Although O’Neal retired from professional basketball in 2011, the BIG3 has seen older players compete, such as Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, O’Neal’s former LSU teammate, who is active in the league at 55, and Charles Oakley, who played in his late 50s. Despite the challenge posed by his hip surgery, the prospect of O’Neal making a brief appearance in the BIG3, even if just for a game or two, isn’t entirely far-fetched.
