[Saba Sports News] On Friday, the NBA levied a fine against the Philadelphia 76ers for their mishandling of Joel Embiid’s status, penalizing them $100,000. Embiid, who had been sidelined with a knee injury since January 30, made a last-minute return to the lineup just before the start of Tuesday’s game. This late decision breached the NBA’s injury reporting policy.
The league’s statement explained that the 76ers did not accurately report Embiid’s availability status before their April 2 game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Initially listed as ‘Out’ on the injury report, Embiid ended up participating in the game. The imposition of the fine considered the 76ers’ history of similar infractions regarding injury disclosures.
Previously in February, the 76ers faced a fine for failing to report Embiid’s absence in a timely manner for a January game against the Nuggets, marking them as repeat offenders of the league’s injury reporting guidelines. Despite these financial penalties, the 76ers appear to continue their approach with little regard for the fines.
