[Saba Sports News] The IPL 2024 Auction, held on December 19 at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena, saw 72 players sold for over INR 230 crore. High bids for Australian pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were newsworthy, but it was uncapped player Shashank Singh who unexpectedly grabbed the spotlight.
Punjab Kings accidentally purchased a player named Shashank Singh, different from the one they intended, creating a notable moment in the auction. Despite co-owners Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia’s request to cancel the bid, auctioneer Mallika Sagar denied it, leading to the dramatic acquisition of the player for his base price of INR 20 lakh. This incident sparked discussions about the intended player.
Addressing the mix-up, Punjab Kings clarified through social media that the Shashank Singh they bought was also a target, despite the confusion caused by two players sharing the same name. The franchise expressed enthusiasm about having him on their team.
The 31-year-old Shashank Singh, who has previously played for Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, responded positively to joining Punjab Kings for the 2024 season. The franchise indicated their excitement to have him contribute to their success, despite the initial confusion.
“Punjab Kings would like to clarify that Shashank Singh was always on our target list. The confusion was due to 2 players of the same name being on the list. We are delighted to have him onboard and see him contribute to our success.”
Meanwhile, the other Shashank Singh missed out due to the mix-up and lack of a photo during the auction.”It’s All Cool … Thank you for Trusting on me!!!!”
However, with the trading window still open, there’s a possibility for Punjab Kings to consider acquiring him as well.
