[Saba Sports News] Pakistani pacer Aamer Jamal made an impressive debut in Test cricket during the first Test against Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth. He showcased his skill by taking six wickets in the first innings and another in the second, making a significant impact against a formidable opponent in international cricket.
Despite his recent success, Jamal’s journey to this point hasn’t been smooth. On the fourth day of the Perth Test, the 27-year-old opened up about the challenges he faced throughout his career, including times when many discouraged him from continuing in cricket. “Lots of people were pushing me to stop playing cricket and (saying) ‘there’s no hope’. But I always believed there was hope. You have to work hard and sometimes even harder than others,” he shared in an interview.
Jamal’s journey was marked by setbacks and persistence. He played for Pakistan U19 but then faced a four-year gap before breaking into first-class cricket. Seeking opportunities, he moved to Australia to play in the New South Wales Premier League for Hawkesbury in Sydney. He hoped to represent Pakistan again on the U23 tour but didn’t get selected.
Adding to these professional challenges, Jamal faced financial difficulties at home. To support his family and finance his cricketing ambitions, he started driving a taxi, a job that made balancing practice and financial responsibilities difficult. His dream of playing for Pakistan seemed distant during these times.
“After that… our financial situation was not that strong. So I hired a car from a bank lease. I started driving a taxi. It was too hard to manage my time in terms of getting enough room for practice. It was hard to keep my dream alive to play for Pakistan,” Jamal said.
However, Jamal’s dedication and resilience eventually led to his breakthrough in international cricket, a testament to his determination to pursue his dream despite the obstacles.
