[Saba Sports News] In a crucial third T20I at St George’s Park, Grenada, England faced the West Indies as part of their five-match series on December 16. With England down two games, their victory in this match was vital to remain in contention. They successfully chased a challenging target of 223, largely thanks to Phil Salt’s unbeaten century. Salt, who was named Player of the Match, expressed his anticipation for a significant score and commended England captain Jos Buttler for his 51-run contribution.
Salt remarked in the post-match presentation, “It feels like this has been a long time coming. We’ve focused on being match-winners. Our strategy was to bring the required runs down to 60-70 in the final overs. I played in my own style, and partnering with Jos, one of the world’s best, was key.”
Achieving England’s third-fastest T20I century in just 51 balls, Salt ended the game with an outstanding 109 off 56 balls, including four fours and nine sixes. He and Buttler established a solid foundation with a 115-run opening stand. Despite quick wickets of Buttler and Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone joined Salt to form a critical 70-run partnership, pushing England closer to victory. Even after Livingstone’s dismissal, Salt persisted, aided by Harry Brook’s timely six. England needed 21 in the final over.
Andre Russell took on the challenge of defending for the West Indies, but Brook swiftly led England to an impressive win within five balls. The West Indies’ earlier total was bolstered by Nicholas Pooran’s 82 and contributions from others, setting a formidable target. Adil Rashid stood out for England with the ball, taking 2/32 in four overs. The series continues with the fourth T20I at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on December 20.
