[Saba Sports News] The inaugural Test between India and England’s women’s teams commenced spectacularly for the hosts at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai on December 14. India, batting first, displayed a strong performance. Despite early losses, Jemimah Rodrigues, Satheesh Shubha, Yastika Bhatia, and Deepti Sharma excelled, contributing to a substantial total.
A notable incident on the first day involved India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur being run out in an unusual manner. Scoring 49 from 81 balls and nearing victory, her bat became lodged in the crease, leading to her dismissal by Danni Wyatt’s throw. Remarkably, Kaur had been dismissed similarly in the T20 World Cup semi-final against Australia. The footage of this runout is trending on social media.
India’s women’s team is set to continue their strong showing against England on Day 2. On the first day, Rodrigues scored 68, Shubha 69, Bhatia 66, and Sharma an unbeaten 60, bringing India’s total to 410 for 7. England’s Lauren Bell was the top wicket-taker with two dismissals, and Sciver-Brunt, Cross, Dean, and Ecclestone each claimed one. The Kaur-led team aims to extend their lead further in the first innings on Day 2.
