[Saba Sports News] The Women’s Premier League auction, held on December 09 in Mumbai, saw 165 players vying for 30 spots across five franchises. Despite several cricket stars like Chamari Athapaththu, Deandra Dottin, and Maia Bouchier going unsold, the name that stood out was Anushka Sharma, an uncapped Indian player.
Her appearance sparked anticipation among fans, especially regarding Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) women, due to her sharing a name with Virat Kohli’s actor wife. However, Sharma remained unpicked, leading to a flurry of humorous reactions on X.
Anushka Sharma, a 20-year-old bowling all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh Women, has a base price of INR 10 Lakh. She gained attention for her performance in the Women’s U19 One Day Challenger Trophy in 2021, where she helped India B defeat India A.
The auction also highlighted two Indian uncapped players who fetched high bids. Vrinda Dinesh, a 22-year-old opening batter from Karnataka, was sold to UP Warriorz for INR 1.30 Crore. Kashvee Gautam, a 20-year-old right-arm seamer, went to Gujarat Giants for INR 2 Crore, tying with Annabel Sutherland as the auction’s joint-most expensive player, who also fetched INR 2 Crore from Delhi Capitals.
