[Saba Sports News] Mo Wagner of the Orlando Magic shared a comical incident from his rookie days about inadvertently trash-talking Kevin Durant. During an interview on “Pardon My Take,” Wagner recounted the episode which occurred while he was with the Los Angeles Lakers.
He quickly realized his mistake after telling Durant, then a Golden State Warriors star, “You can’t guard me” following a foul. At that time, Durant, along with Draymond Green and Demarcus Cousins, taunted Wagner as he attempted free throws, leaving him rattled and managing only one successful shot out of three.
Durant humorously responded to Wagner’s story, remarking on his audacity as a rookie. Wagner, who only averaged 4.8 points per game in his first season and was part of a Lakers team that lost by 19 points in that game, was probably not the most suitable candidate for trash-talking a player of Durant’s caliber, known for his willingness to confront detractors.
