[Saba Sports News] The Legends League Cricket 2023 match between India Capitals and Gujarat Giants gave birth to a controversial moment as two ex-India cricketers and World Cup winners Gautam Gambhir and S Sreesanth got involved in a heated exchange of words.
After the sixth over of the innings, both Gambhir and Sreesanth engaged in a verbal altercation that became so intense that the umpire had to intervene to calm down the situation.
While Sreesanth earlier refrained from sharing the details of what led to the spat, he opened up on it on Thursday, blaming Gambhir for showing disrespect to him and calling him a “fixer.”
For the unversed, Sreesanth was handed a life ban by the BCCI as he was allegedly involved in the infamous IPL 2013 spot-fixing scandal. However, the Super Court of India reduced the term of the ban to seven years.
“I have not used a single bad word or used a single abusive word to him. I only said, ‘What are you saying? What are you saying?’ In fact, I kept laughing in a sarcastic way because he kept calling me ‘Fixer, fixer, you are a fixer, F*** off fixer’. This is the language that was used. Even when the umpires were trying to control him, he kept on calling me fixer,” Sreesanth said as quoted on his Instagram live session.
Opinions are divided on this saga with a few people also siding with Gambhir, holding Sreesanth at fault for causing the argument. However, Sreesanth urged fans to not fall prey to what he called the PR activities, claiming that only his side of the story is the real truth.
“I am not going to do much PR and all of that which a lot of celebrities do to spread the wrong news. I just wanted to come live and come to you all straight. His PR is being… where he comes from and obviously the kind of money he can spend. I am just a normal person.
“This is the real truth. He’s been doing it to a lot of people, not just me. I have no idea why he started it. This is not the way to talk. I can take it up to further ire but I want to drop this right here and now. His people will try to save him but it’s my request to you, don’t fall for it,” Sreesanth stated.
