[Saba Sports News] Recently, top BCCI officials, India captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and the selection committee held a lengthy meeting in New Delhi to discuss Indian cricket’s future, including a review of their ODI World Cup runner-up performance and preparations for the T20 World Cup six months away. The meeting, which Rohit attended via Zoom from London, also involved squad selections for the upcoming South Africa tour.
During the meeting, Rohit inquired about his role in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, asking if the BCCI and the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee planned to include him. According to a Dainik Jagran report, there was unanimous agreement among the officials, Dravid, and the selectors that Rohit should lead India in the T20 World Cup. Rohit requested a break from the white-ball leg of the South Africa tour, and the selectors appointed Suryakumar Yadav as ODI captain and KL Rahul for the ODIs.
Rohit is set to return as captain for the Test series starting December 26. The conversation also touched on Hardik Pandya’s role, considering his recent ankle injury and absence from the T20I captaincy. The team’s performance and selections in the upcoming T20Is and the IPL’s first half will be crucial in shaping the squad for the World Cup.
