[Saba Sports News] As India heads to South Africa for a comprehensive tour encompassing all formats, the primary concern is the fitness of Mohammed Shami, a key fast bowler known for his seam and swing capabilities.
Shami is currently struggling with an ankle issue, which places his participation in doubt. While he is slated to play in the two-Test series and a three-day warm-up match starting December 26 in Pretoria, his involvement hinges on his recovery status. The BCCI announced on November 30 that Shami’s tour involvement depends on his fitness.
Shami, who was the top wicket-taker in the World Cup, has been grappling with this ankle niggle since then, affecting his bowling. The Indian team, led by T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav and accompanied by coach Rahul Dravid and staff, is set to leave for Durban from Bengaluru, transiting through Dubai. The first T20 is scheduled for December 10 in Durban.
In another development, the BCCI has filed a case against Byju’s, the Indian team’s jersey sponsor, at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Bengaluru, citing a Rs 150 crore default. The hearing for this case is scheduled for December 22, and neither the BCCI nor Byju’s has officially responded to the matter as of the report’s publication.
