[Saba Sports News] The Indian Premier League (IPL) fever has gripped the fans a little sooner this time with various trade deals kicking off the build-up to the extravaganza.
In another development surrounding the tournament, it has been revealed that 1,166 players have decided to put their names for the upcoming IPL auction.
Notably, the player registration deadline for the IPL 2024 auction ended on November 30, and the list of cricketers, who have expressed their willingness to feature in the nearing edition of the competition is now locked.
The highlight of the player list has to be Mitchell Starc, who has thrown his hat into the ring for an IPL auction after eight years. Starc last played in the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015.
The latest World Cup winners Pat Cummins and Travis Head, who played a very prominent role in Australia’s title-winning campaign, are also among in the player pool for the auction.
New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra too make the 1,166-member list.
The most notable absentee in this list is England fast-bowler Jofra Archer, who recently got released by the Mumbai Indians. Archer is recovering from an injury and has possibly opted against entering the auction because of the same reason.
830 of these 1,166 players are Indians. 45 players have registered from the associate nations. There are 18 Indian internations, including Kedar Jadhav, Shivam Mavi, Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron.
The IPL 2024 auction is scheduled on December 19 at the Coca-Cola Arena, Dubai.
