[Saba Sports News] Indian cricket’s emerging star Rinku Singh, known for his match-finishing abilities, showcased his skills once again with a crucial 22* off 14 balls in the first T20I against Australia in Visakhapatnam on November 23. This performance came after his remarkable five sixes in an over in IPL 2023. His efforts contributed significantly to India achieving their highest successful T20I chase of 209.
Reflecting on his approach during the game, Rinku described entering the field in a high-pressure situation as ‘perfect’ for him. He emphasized his focus on staying composed and pushing the match to the final over. In a video shared by BCCI, Rinku said, “It was a perfect situation for me… I was just trying to stay calm and take it to the last over.”
He also shared valuable advice he received from MS Dhoni, who suggested staying calm and aiming straight in the final overs. “I had spoken to Mahi bhai once… That is what I try to follow, to remain quiet and not react to anything. That has helped me a lot,” Rinku added.
In a tense finish, India lost three crucial wickets in the last over. Needing seven runs to win, Rinku struck a boundary on the first ball and took a single on the second, reducing the requirement to two runs from four balls.
Despite three wickets falling at the other end, the Aligarh-born cricketer was unflustered and hit Sean Abbott for a six on the final ball, ensuring India’s victory. Interestingly, the match was already won before the ball reached the crowd, as Abbott had overstepped, resulting in a one-run penalty that took India past the required total.
Besides Rinku, Suryakumar Yadav played a pivotal role with an 80 off 42 balls, earning the Player of the Match award. Earlier in the day, Australia’s Josh Inglis hit the joint-fastest hundred by an Australian in T20Is (47 balls), scoring 110 (50) and helping Australia set a challenging total of 208/3.
