[Saba Sports News] Kelly Oubre Jr. is making good progress in recovering from his recent injury. This week, Nick Nurse, the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, announced that Oubre has resumed on-court training with the team. He is scheduled for another evaluation in a week, with Nurse suggesting a possibility of Oubre’s return shortly after this period.
Nurse mentioned that there’s a potential for Oubre to come back next week, as reported by Tim Bontemps of ESPN. However, Nurse pointed out the uncertainty around how Oubre will cope with physical contact during play, which will be a key factor in his return timeline.
“If he manages the first contact well, we might be looking at about a week,” Nurse explained. “But if not, we may need to extend that period, hopefully by days, not weeks.”
Oubre’s comeback to training is notably swift, happening less than two weeks after he was involved in an alleged hit-and-run incident as a pedestrian in Center City, Philadelphia. Although there have been doubts raised by local police regarding the incident, and lack of footage, a video showing Oubre post-incident has surfaced, addressing some of these uncertainties.
Oubre sustained a fractured rib, cuts, and bruises from the incident. His swift return to training is a significant positive development. In his absence, the 76ers have maintained a 3-3 record, with Danuel House, Jaden Springer, and Robert Covington taking over most of Oubre’s playing time. Oubre’s return is eagerly awaited by the team, especially considering his average of 16.2 points per game on 50.0 percent shooting prior to his injury.
