[Saba Sports News] England all-rounder Ben Stokes has given the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 a pass due to his fitness issues and workload management.
Stokes is likely to undergo a knee surgery, which will kept him out of action for a long period, meaning the England Test captain could even miss the red-ball series against India, scheduled just before the IPL 2024.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) confirmed the news of Stokes’ unavailability for IPL 2024, citing workload management.
“England Test captain, all-rounder Ben Stokes has made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness,” CSK released a statement.
CSK acquired Stokes’ services in the IPL 2023 auction for INR 16.25 crore. He featured in only two games, scoring just 15 runs. He bowled only over as he then as well was battling with knee concerns.
The franchise has not revealed if they have released Stokes or not. But if they have, it will load their bank with millions, which they can use in the upcoming auction, scheduled to be held on December 19 in Dubai.
Notably, all the teams are required to submit the list of their retained and released players till November 26.
