[Saba Sports News] In a surprising revelation, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently disclosed his favourite batting partner, and the name is not on the expected lines.
Gambhir expressed his fondness for batting alongside ex-India captain and middle-order wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni.
Addressing the perception that his favourite might be his regular opening partner, Virender Sehwag, Gambhir made it clear that it was, in fact, Dhoni with whom he found a special synergy, particularly in white-ball cricket, forming formidable alliances that left a mark on the game.
“My favourite batting partner was MS Dhoni. People think that it was Virender Sehwag but I actually love playing more with Dhoni, especially in white-ball cricket. We shared big partnerships,” Gambhir said as quoted to Sportskeeda.
Reflecting on their memorable collaborations, one standout moment was their pivotal 109-run stand in the World Cup 2011 final against Sri Lanka. This partnership played a defining role in securing the ODI World Cup for India after a 28-year-long wait, etching their names in cricketing history.
Another unforgettable partnership between the duo was witnessed during the fourth ODI of the series against Sri Lanka in 2009 at Colombo, where they scored monumental 188 runs together for the second wicket.
Notably, the 184-run partnership between Gambhir and Dhoni in the Commonwealth Bank series in 2008 against Sri Lanka at Brisbane also merits acknowledgment. In this particular encounter, India had lost four wickets with just 83 runs on the board, but this stand steered them to a respectable score of 267.
