[Saba Sports News] Australia clinched their sixth ODI World Cup title in 2023, defeating India by six wickets in the final. Despite initial setbacks with losses to India and South Africa, the Pat Cummins-led team made a remarkable comeback, winning nine consecutive matches. In the final, Australia dominated, keeping India mostly on the defensive.
Prize Money for Australia and India
For their victory, Australia received USD 4 million (over INR 33 crore), while India, as runners-up, earned USD 2 million (over INR 16.5 crore). Individual honors were given to Virat Kohli as Player of the Tournament and Travis Head as Player of the Match.
Match Highlights
India’s innings began strongly with Rohit Sharma’s aggressive start, but his loss at the end of the powerplay, followed by Shreyas Iyer’s quick departure, put India on the back foot. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul then tried to stabilize the innings, but the pressure mounted as they struggled to rotate the strike. Kohli scored 54 runs, and Rahul made 66 off 107 balls. However, their efforts weren’t enough, with both Ravindra Jadeja and Suryakumar Yadav having quiet performances, leading India to a total of 240 runs.
Australia’s Response
The Indian bowlers started well in the powerplay, taking three early wickets. However, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne’s partnership of 192 runs turned the game in Australia’s favor. Head scored 137 runs, and Labuschagne contributed an unbeaten 58, guiding Australia to a six-wicket victory.
