[Saba Sports News] The current scoring record for the
Austrian national team is held by Toni Polster with 44 goals, while Marko
Arnautovic has scored 36 goals for the national team. Recently, Toni Polster
has taken legal action by hiring a lawyer to request that the Austrian national
team count three additional goals towards his record. The reason behind this
request is that Polster scored one goal in each of Austria’s three matches
against Liechtenstein (1984), Tunisia (1987), and Morocco (1988). However,
these three matches were not considered official games at the time, and
therefore, his goals were not included in the Austrian national team’s official
statistical list. In response to Polster’s lawsuit, Austrian international
David Alaba expressed surprise, stating that it was the first time he had heard
about the issue and found it amusing. Alaba went on to say that while Polster
holds a great record, the team will do their best to support Arnautovic in his
pursuit of breaking it.
