[Saba Sports News] Bangladesh’s women’s cricket team has been making strides, with notable achievements including a historic ODI win against India, a T20I victory after five years, and a bronze medal at the Asian Games by defeating Pakistan. They also secured series wins against Pakistan in both ODI and T20I formats.
The team, led by Nigar Sultana, is set to continue its progress with a tour to South Africa in December for three T20Is and as many ODIs. The ODI series is part of the 2022-25 Women’s Championship. South Africa currently ranks fifth, with Bangladesh at seventh.
Veteran all-rounder Lata Mondal returns to the 16-player squad after missing recent games against Pakistan. Young talents like 15-year-old off-spinner Nishita Akter and others are named as reserves. However, opener Shathi Rani has been omitted.
The tour starts with the first T20I in Benoni on December 3, followed by games in Kimberley. The ODI series begins in East London on December 16, moving to Potchefstroom and concluding in Benoni on December 23. Bangladesh aims to improve their record against South Africa, having only two ODI and one T20I wins in past encounters.
The squad includes Nigar Sultana (captain), Nahida Akter (vice-captain), and other key players, indicating a mix of experience and emerging talent for the upcoming tour.
