After the ODI World Cup, David Warner has been pulled
from the T20I series against India.
In anticipation of the home summer, which begins with
the first Test against Pakistan on December 14, Warner has joined a group of
multiformat players who have decided not to play in the five-match series.
Along with all-rounders Cameron Green and Mitchell
Marsh, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc are all returning home.
Warner scored 535 runs at 48.63 during an incredible
World Cup. He designated the SCG in early January as his retirement from the
format, therefore the forthcoming Pakistan series will signal the end of his
Test career.
The T20I squad now includes Aaron Hardie, an
all-arounder from Western Australia who made his debut in South Africa earlier
this year. In addition, Kane Richardson has been called up to take Spencer
Johnson’s position, who has a hamstring injury.
The series serves as a lead-up to the next Twenty20
World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, even though it begins just four days
after the ODI World Cup final. Prior to that competition, Australia has six
further Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) planned, including two three-match
series in February against the West Indies and New Zealand.
Tanveer Sangha, who was a travelling reserve
throughout, is now included in the team along with seven other players who
played at the World Cup.
Matthew Wade will remain the team’s captain, but
Marsh—who led them to a 3-0 victory over South Africa in September—is the
front-runner to take over the position permanently.
Additionally, Andre Borovec will serve as the series’
interim coach while Andrew McDonald returns home before the summer.
The series gets underway in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
