[Saba Sports News] India faces Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19. In the pre-match conference, Indian captain Rohit Sharma experienced a minor interruption when a journalist’s phone rang. Maintaining his composure, Rohit humorously addressed the situation in his unique style.
Confident in his team’s ability to handle pressure, Rohit highlighted the importance of current form over past World Cup experiences. He noted the presence of two players from the victorious 2011 squad, reinforcing the team’s capacity to manage high-stakes situations. Rohit shared insights into his strategic shift in batting, emphasizing a more liberated and relaxed approach, which he adopted during the England game.
“Whenever we play such a tournament, the current form of players is more important than playing World Cup finals in the past. We have two players from 2011 as well who have been part of the World Cup final. We know how to handle pressure. We want to continue the way we have played so far.”
“Before the start of the World Cup. I had plans to play such kind of cricket. I didn’t know whether it will work or not. With little freedom I wanted to express myself. During England game also I changed my approach and that is what senior players do. I changed my tactics. I believe in going there and keeping it easy and calm. It will nice to do as we have work hard for it. I don’t want to get excited and have too much pressure on it. It is not just me but also player in the changing room,” Rohit added.
Rohit also spoke about Mohammed Shami’s absence in the initial games, acknowledging the challenges it posed. He stressed the significance of this final for the team, especially in light of their previous defeat to Australia in the 2003 World Cup final, where they lost by 125 runs under Ricky Ponting’s leadership. The team is eager to avenge that loss and capture the title this year.
