[Saba Sports News] Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, a prominent
figure in Indian badminton, presently holds the 11th rank in women’s singles
globally. In a recent interview with the media, she expressed her goal of
winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. PV Sindhu has previously secured
silver and bronze medals in the last two Olympic Games. However, since August
of the previous year, she has been grappling with injuries, which have affected
her performance. In recent matches, PV Sindhu has found herself frequently
resorting to passive defence, as her offensive tactics have not been as
effective. She is currently undergoing recovery training at the Prakash
Padukone Academy in India, focusing on enhancing her speed, strength, and
endurance. It is worth noting that PV Sindhu’s parents both have a background
in volleyball, with her father being a former player for the Indian national
volleyball team. Her tall stature can be attributed to the excellent genes
passed on by her parents. PV Sindhu began practicing badminton at the age of
eight, with her parents providing unwavering support. Despite traveling more
than 50 kilometres daily, they ensured she had transportation to and from the
badminton academy. PV Sindhu dedicates herself to daily weightlifting, running,
and ball training. Her relentless efforts paid off in 2013 when she created a
sensation in the badminton world by defeating defending champion Wang Yihan at
the World Badminton Championships in Guangzhou. She even missed her sister’s
wedding to compete but has no regrets and remains committed to pursuing the
Olympic title.
