[Saba Sports News] Recently, Mainz officially
announced the termination of the contract with Dutch forward Anwar El Ghazi.
Previously, El Ghazi had expressed support for Palestine in a social media
post, and the phrase “from the river to the sea” used in his
statement was interpreted as implying the eradication of Israel from the map.
As a result, Mainz suspended him from training and matches. This incident has
sparked widespread controversy, with various opinions being expressed on social
media. Some support the club’s decision, believing that speech should carry
responsibility, while others advocate for freedom of speech. Currently, El
Ghazi has filed a wrongful termination claim with the Mainz labour court, and
the hearing is scheduled to take place in December at the earliest.
