[Saba Sports News] At the pre-match press conference for the ODI World Cup 2023 semi-finals at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma was asked about his personal cricketing journey. He reminisced about starting as a young player on the same ground, now leading the team in a crucial World Cup match.
Rohit, however, stated that reflecting on his journey is not his current priority, as he is entirely focused on the forthcoming match. He plans to contemplate his personal growth only after November 19th, emphasizing the need to concentrate on the team’s immediate objectives.
“I don’t think there’s so much time to think about it (his journey). My focus is on the game and what we have in hand tomorrow. I seriously have no time to think about my journey. What it has been in the past. Probably after 19 November, I’ll think about it, but right now it’s just business and pure business of getting the job done for the team,” Rohit shared.
Rohit further stressed the significance of performing well in such a prestigious tournament, expressing confidence in his team’s capabilities. He remarked on the team’s excellent form so far and the importance of maintaining their current mindset.
“It’s such a high-profile tournament, everybody is watching, and you want to display what one could cricket as Indian team. That is wha we’ve done in this tournament so far which is very, very good. We don’t really have to change too much. Being in that same mindset as we were before the start of the World Cup,” he added.
In the semi-final, India, who topped the round-robin stage, will face New Zealand, who grabbed the fourth spot for the semi-finals. India’s impressive record in the tournament includes winning all nine of their matches, while New Zealand has had a challenging run, losing four of their last five games. The clash between these cricketing powerhouses is eagerly awaited, with fans curious to see who will advance to the final.
India holds a recent advantage over New Zealand, winning the last four ODI matches against them. The last victory for the Black Caps against India dates back to November 2022, and they haven’t won an ODI in India since 2017.
