[Saba Sports News] As Zimbabwe’s cricket team prepares for their white-ball series in Bangladesh, the reality of missing next month’s Twenty20 World Cup weighs heavily on their spirits. Team captain Sikandar Raza shared his profound disappointment, emphasizing the enduring pain of not qualifying for the tournament—a sentiment shared by the team. Zimbabwe was narrowly ousted by Namibia and Uganda during the African qualifiers, a bitter disappointment that will linger for the players.
“It’s something that will always be painful, not just during play but even after we retire. It’s a pain we’ll have to carry for a long time,” Raza told The Daily Star. He highlighted the team’s responsibility to inspire and motivate young cricketers back home, seeing this as a way to alleviate some of their disappointment.
Despite the emotional setback, the team remains driven by the duty to nurture the future of cricket in Zimbabwe. As they gear up to face Bangladesh, the hosts, led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, expect a challenging series. Shanto noted, “The series will be very competitive because they’re a good team.”
With high emotions and strong motivations, Zimbabwe continues their cricketing journey, demonstrating resilience and a determined effort to move past setbacks and strive for future successes.
