[Saba Sports News] Though Rohit Sharma is not leading the Mumbai Indians in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), he remains the chosen captain for India at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. After guiding Mumbai Indians to five IPL championships and leading India to the 2023 ODI World Cup final, Rohit stepped down, allowing Hardik Pandya to take over as the franchise captain. However, shortly after the IPL concludes, Rohit will resume leadership, this time of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup.
During a press conference at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) headquarters on April 2, Rohit reflected on his changing roles. “It is a part of life. Not everything will go your way. It has been a great experience. I have played under a lot of captains before in my life. So, this is nothing new to me. You go with it and do what is required as a player and that’s what I have done for the last month,” Rohit stated.
Ajit Agarkar, chairman of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee, emphasized Rohit’s undisputed leadership role for the T20 World Cup. “As selectors, you want a leader. Rohit has been a terrific leader. Just six months between the 50-over World Cup and this one. I know Hardik led a few series before but Rohit’s form during the World Cup – he is a great player,” Agarkar commented, affirming that there was never any doubt about Rohit’s leadership for the upcoming tournament.
