[Saba Sports News] The 2024 IPL season has proven tumultuous for the Gujarat Titans (GT), who are struggling to secure a playoff spot after their stellar performances in the past two seasons—winning in 2022 and finishing second in 2023. Despite the challenges, veteran bowler Umesh Yadav remains hopeful about the team’s prospects. Following a crucial victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), GT is still in contention for the playoffs, holding ten points from five wins in twelve matches.
With only two games left and a low net run rate of -1.063, GT’s playoff hopes depend significantly on favorable outcomes in other matches. Yet, Yadav remains confident. “There are a lot of possibilities. Our plan is to play our game and try to win both remaining games by a good margin. Even Gill has witnessed miracles with this team,” Yadav shared, reflecting on the team’s strategy.
As GT faces the end of the season, Yadav emphasized their continued efforts: “We are trying our best. If the top-placed teams face any ups and downs and we reach 14 points, then… Everyone wants to be there.”
In discussing strategies against formidable opponents like KKR’s explosive opener Sunil Narine, Yadav revealed that GT’s pacers are prepared. “We plan to hit the deck, attack the stumps, and swing the ball. That’s our best chance to dismiss him since he’s there to score quickly, and he’s been successful at it,” he explained.
Yadav also commented on the challenges posed by the Impact Player rule, noting its effect on the game’s dynamics: “The job is getting increasingly difficult for fast bowlers with the Impact Player rule in play. The top and middle order are less hesitant about getting out early since the lineup is deep, with batting up to Nos 8 or 9.”
