[Saba Sports News] ndia faced Bangladesh in their only ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up match on June 1 at the newly built Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York. While the Men in Blue secured a comfortable 60-run victory, an incident highlighted the caring nature of Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
During the second innings, an enthusiastic fan breached security and ran onto the field to hug Sharma. Security personnel quickly apprehended and pinned the fan to the ground. However, Rohit Sharma’s reaction won hearts. As US police officers handcuffed the fan, Sharma urged them to go easy, recognizing the fan meant no harm. He gestured to the officers, pleading for gentle handling, and called for someone from the Indian team to ensure the fan was treated humanely.
On the field, India delivered a dominant performance after opting to bat first. Rishabh Pant, making a comeback after his car accident in December 2022, starred with a blistering 53 off 32 balls. Vice-captain Hardik Pandya smashed a quickfire 40, propelling India to 182/5 in 20 overs. Bangladesh’s chase never gained momentum, restricted to 122/9, with Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Dube sharing four wickets.
India will begin their campaign in Group A against Ireland on June 5 at the same venue, followed by a match against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9 at Nassau County Stadium.
