[Saba Sports News] India captain Rohit Sharma thanked all Indian cricket supporters after their T20 World Cup victory. Thousands of fans gathered at Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium during India’s victory parade. Rohit expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the fans’ desire to bring the trophy back to India and feeling fortunate that the team accomplished this goal.
The 37-year-old praised his special team, feeling lucky to lead such a unit. Under Rohit, India reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, and the finals of the 2023 World Test Championship and ODI World Cup, but lost to England and Australia, respectively. The team was desperate for a major trophy, and Rohit was elated to bring an ICC trophy back to India after 11 years.
“On behalf of my team and the BCCI, I would like to thank the fans! Ever since we reached India, we have seen how much it means to them. For the last 11 years, they have wanted the trophy back in India! As much desperation as we had to win the trophy, the fans had it a bit more. This team is special, and I am lucky to have the chance to captain this unit,” Rohit said.
Similarly, Virat Kohli reflected on the emotions of winning a World Cup. During the celebration, Kohli mentioned that while he didn’t fully grasp the senior players’ emotions in 2011, he now understands them.
“When we won the World Cup in 2011, there were a lot of tears among the seniors, and I couldn’t understand. I was young, and we had won the World Cup. But now, being a senior player with Rohit, after playing for so long, it is special. This is the first time I have seen Rohit show so much emotion on the field. When I was walking up the steps, I was crying, he was crying, and we hugged. That is a special moment,” Kohli said.
