[Saba Sports News] Veteran England pacer James Anderson is set to play his final international game. England’s Test series opener against the West Indies at Lord’s on Wednesday, July 10, will mark the end of Anderson’s illustrious career.
As Anderson prepares to retire, former West Indies legend Brian Lara paid tribute to him, revealing that Anderson bowled one of the best deliveries he had ever faced. Anderson, with 700 wickets to his name, dismissed Lara at The Oval in 2004. Lara praised Anderson for that delivery and his remarkable career.
“He bowled me one of the best balls I have ever faced. He was the last English bowler to get me out. It was my last Test at the Oval against England. It was a little bit of an in-swinger that I shaped to hit through mid-on, but it hit the pitch, straightened, and took my edge,” Lara said on BBC Breakfast.
Paying tribute to Anderson, England Cricket shared a montage on X (formerly known as Twitter), featuring highlights of his career and numerous achievements.
In a time when T20 cricket is on the rise, Anderson emphasized the significance of Test cricket in shaping him. “Test cricket is literally the reason that I am the person that I am. It has taught me so many lessons through the years, built my resilience to a lot of things. The fulfillment you get from putting in a shift in a day’s cricket is different from anything else you can do in the game,” Anderson shared.
