[Saba Sports News] Legendary England pacer James Anderson bid farewell to his illustrious international cricket career on a winning note. Amidst holding back emotions and receiving praise for his incredible feats, a special moment came after the first Test between England and West Indies. The hosts dominated the visitors on Day 3, giving a fitting tribute to Anderson.
After the match, the ‘Burnley Express’ was honored with an honorary lifetime membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Anderson concluded his career with an emphatic win by an innings and 114 runs at Lord’s. His career spanned nearly 22 years, during which he represented England 188 times and took 704 wickets. At the post-match presentation, MCC President Mark Nicholas bestowed the lifetime membership on Anderson amid a rousing ovation from teammates and the crowd.
Throughout his career, Anderson set numerous records. He debuted at Lord’s against Zimbabwe in 2003 and retired as the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history, behind only Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne. He is the only pacer to have bowled over 40,000 deliveries in Tests. In his farewell Test, Anderson picked three wickets, showcasing his skill and fitness.
As the Test series continues, England will face West Indies in the second Test at Trent Bridge starting July 18. Anderson confirmed he will remain with the team throughout the series to mentor young players and assist in any needed roles.
