[Saba Sports News] Former India skipper Kapil Dev recently praised star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for their invaluable contributions to the Indian cricket team, describing them as irreplaceable servants of Indian cricket.
Kohli and Sharma retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup for India, where the team went unbeaten and defeated South Africa in the final. Kapil Dev compared their impact to that of cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni.
“No one can take Virat and Rohit’s place in the Indian team in any format. They have been huge servants of Indian cricket, and it was a happy farewell for them. The stature that Virat has achieved in all formats will surely be missed in T20Is. Both are irreplaceable, just like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni,” Kapil Dev said at the Trinity Golf Championship League curtain-raiser event.
Kapil Dev also wished the Indian team luck with Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach for the upcoming white-ball tour to Sri Lanka. “If Gautam Gambhir is taking up that post, I wish him and the team good luck. I hope they do better than before. I want to wish the Indian players all the best,” he said.
India will tour Sri Lanka for a three-game ODI and three-game T20I series, with Kohli and Sharma expected to rest from their duties.
