[Saba Sports News] The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a significant initiative, as secretary Jay Shah revealed that they will be donating INR 8.5 crore to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to support their 2024 Paris Olympics campaign.
The Olympic Games will officially begin this Friday, July 26, featuring around 10,500 athletes from over 200 nations competing for 329 medals across 32 sports and 45 events. Shah announced BCCI’s decision on his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle, expressing pride in supporting India’s athletes.
“I am proud to announce that the @BCCI will be supporting our incredible athletes representing #India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are providing INR 8.5 Crores to the IOA for the campaign. To our entire contingent, we wish you the very best. Make India proud! Jai Hind,” Shah wrote.
Indian fans are hopeful for a strong performance from their athletes, following the success of the Tokyo Games, where India achieved its best-ever haul of seven medals, including a historic gold in javelin throw by Neeraj Chopra. Expectations are high for the Paris Olympics.
While cricket enthusiasts will be watching other sports this year, they can look forward to cricket’s return in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Cricket made its only Olympic appearance in 1900, during the second edition of the event.
