For SA20 2025, Kane Williamson and Chris Woakes have signed directly with the Super Giants of Durban. For both players, this will be their first SA20 assignment.
The deadlines for retentions are July 21 and direct signings are August 31. The competition will take place between January 9 and February 8.
Williamson announced last month that he had given up the captaincy and turned down a contract with New Zealand to play central for the 2024–25 season, with the SA20 being his final destination in January. He emphasised, however, that his commitment to New Zealand was greater than his desire to travel to South Africa.
“There’s a number of great competitions on during that time, but SA20 looks really exciting,” Williamson had told reporters. “Unfortunately, it meant turning down a central contract. However, my priority still is, absolutely, playing for New Zealand. Think I miss maybe a handful of games over a three-week period.”
Over the years, Woakes has been a crucial member of England’s white-ball team, especially when it comes to using the new ball in their victories in the 2019 ODI and 2022 T20I World Cups. He was not chosen for the 2024 T20 World Cup, though.
The Paarl Royals announced Joe Root as a new addition last week, along with several other English players, while MI Cape Town has extended an offer to Ben Stokes for a large contract.
Last season, DSG finished in second place and lost to Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the championship game.
