Assistant coach Azhar Mahmood issued a statement announcing he will be “pursuing legal advice against those responsible for making these false allegations” in response to social media rumours that the players’ families and the team’s coaching staff travelled with the team at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expense. “It’s becoming absurd and dangerous to continue this mentality of making up accusations and leading people astray. “It is illegal to speak without supporting documentation and to misrepresent the facts; individuals who do so will face legal repercussions,” Azhar Mahmood posted on X, the platform that was once known as Twitter.
The men in green had a dismal T20 World Cup, losing to the hosts USA in the points table and elimination from the tournament’s group stage. This is just one of numerous issues that are surfacing regarding Pakistan, who are being closely watched following their elimination from the World Cup group stage.
“Pursuing an increase in followers and media attention by spreading falsehoods is downright unacceptable. I will be pursuing legal advice against those responsible for making these false allegations towards me and my family, and strict action will be taken accordingly. We will not be discussing this matter further on social media. I urge everyone to avoid engaging with or entertaining these harmful narratives as it is essential to put an end to such behavior in our media culture,” he concluded.
This comes only a few days after Pakistani media revealed that skipper Babar Azam will file a lawsuit against former players and YouTubers who have accused the world’s top-ranked ODI batsman of misbehaviour during the competition.
