[Saba Sports News] India’s captain Rohit Sharma was recently seen training in a Mumbai park, preparing for the packed Test schedule starting in September.
2024 has been a milestone year for Indian cricket, with the team winning the T20 World Cup under Sharma’s leadership, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought. As the team shifts focus to Test cricket, Sharma faces the challenge of leading India to a third consecutive World Test Championship (WTC) final.
In a video shared on social media platform X, Sharma was seen in an intense running session, supervised by India’s new assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Despite a disappointing ODI series loss to Sri Lanka last month, Sharma shone as the highest run-scorer of the series with consistent performances of 58, 64, and 35.
India’s Test calendar is packed with crucial matches, starting with a two-Test series against Bangladesh on September 19, followed by a three-Test home series against New Zealand in October, and a five-match Test series against Australia beginning in November.
Sharma’s form has been strong in the current WTC cycle, where he’s India’s second-highest run-scorer with 700 runs from nine matches at an average of 46.66, including three centuries and three half-centuries. His performance will be key as India, currently leading the WTC points table with a percentage of 68.51%, looks to maintain their edge over second-placed Australia.
Meanwhile, other Indian players will participate in the upcoming Duleep Trophy ahead of the Bangladesh series.
