The majority of the Indian team that advanced to the women’s T20 Asia Cup final in July of this year has been retained for the women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
With the exception of Uma Chetry, 14 of the 15 players in the World Cup roster were also on the Asia Cup team. Instead, India has selected Yastika Bhatia; however, both her and Shreyanka Patil’s inclusion are contingent on their respective fitness levels, as the latter sustained a fractured finger in an Asia Cup match against Pakistan.
Tanuja Kanwar, who took Patil’s spot in the India squad for the Asia Cup, is listed as a reserve instead of being included.
Bhatia is now recovering from a left knee injury at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
As captain, Harmanpreet Kaur will remain in charge while Smriti Mandhana will serve as vice-captain. Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, and these two are anticipated to constitute the backbone of the batting order. Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar will be in charge of the fast-bowling team. The primary spinners are Patil, Radha Yadav, and Deepti.
