[Saba Sports News] The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has awarded a cash prize of ₹1 crore to Ajinkya Rahane’s team for their Irani Cup 2024 victory—their first win since 1997-98.
Under Rahane’s leadership, Mumbai solidified their dominance in the domestic circuit, following up their recent Ranji Trophy win with this latest triumph.
The match, held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, saw Mumbai declared winners based on a first-innings lead, as they posted a strong total of 537.
Rahane missed a century by just three runs, while Sarfaraz Khan shone with an unbeaten 222. In the second innings, despite a shaky start, contributions from Prithvi Shaw and Tanush Kotian’s 114 not out solidified their victory.
Celebrations took place at the Wankhede Stadium, where MCA President Ajinkya Naik and Rahane posed with the trophy, expressing eagerness for the team’s upcoming Ranji Trophy defense.
