[Saba Sports News] India captain Rohit Sharma addressed the team’s collapse to 46 all out on Day 2 against New Zealand, stating that those three hours won’t define the team’s overall performance.
Despite losing the first Test by eight wickets, Rohit emphasized that one bad session won’t overshadow the progress made, particularly their strong second-innings score of 462.
“I’m not going to focus too much on this Test because it’s unfair to judge the team based on just three hours of play. We need to keep a consistent message. We fought back with the bat in the second innings and showed a lot of positives,” Rohit said after the match.
He admitted the team made some “small mistakes” but urged everyone to stay calm and avoid panicking ahead of the next Test. Rohit stressed the importance of staying united and focusing on the upcoming match in Pune on October 24.
Rohit also praised Sarfaraz Khan for stepping up with a century after replacing Shubman Gill, who missed the first Test due to injury. “It was great to see Sarfaraz grab his chance and get a big 100. It’s a positive sign for the team.”
While Rohit praised Jasprit Bumrah’s efforts with three wickets, he acknowledged that Mohammed Siraj, although bowling well, didn’t quite have the desired impact. Nonetheless, he encouraged the bowlers to stay focused and push harder in the next game.
