[Saba Sports News] At 36, Glenn Maxwell isn’t ready to let go of his Test cricket dream just yet. Since his debut in 2013, he’s played seven Tests, last wearing the Baggy Green in 2017.
Though currently outside Australia’s Test plans and without a first-class game since 2023, Maxwell still holds on to hope.
“If I gave up on that Test dream now, I don’t think I’d be doing justice to that younger Glenn Maxwell who was dying to put on the Baggy Green,” he shared. “While there’s still a glimmer of hope, I’ll keep going for it.”
Reflecting on his start in Test cricket, Maxwell admitted, “When I grew up, that’s all I wanted to do. I definitely got my chance at Test level a bit prematurely… It all happened really fast. I had no idea what I was doing and probably hadn’t had the first-class experience I would have liked.”
During Justin Langer’s tenure as head coach, Maxwell’s Test career took an unexpected turn. Left out of the UAE tour and advised to feign an injury, Maxwell also faced a barrage of bouncers in practice that he felt was prompted by Langer.
Despite these challenges, Maxwell emphasized his ongoing friendship with Langer, saying, “We’re still on great terms. We had a really good friendship, though I probably didn’t get exactly what I needed from him at that time.”
