[Saba Sports News] Mumbai Indians (MI) managed to retain their core players—Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav—and added Tilak Varma, all within the ₹75 Cr cap before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Jasprit Bumrah was retained first for ₹18 Cr. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya followed at ₹16.35 Cr each, while Rohit Sharma was retained for ₹16.30 Cr. Tilak Varma, the final retention, cost MI ₹8 Cr.
MI’s senior management, including Mahela Jayawardene and owner Akash Ambani, met with the players in early October to review the previous season and discuss retentions.
The players, disappointed by MI’s last-place finish in IPL 2024, held open discussions about their roles and goals.
Suryakumar expressed interest in future captaincy, but MI confirmed they intended Hardik as their long-term captain.
The senior players agreed Bumrah should be the top retention with the highest salary. Rohit, comfortable with the retention order, accepted a spot behind Bumrah, Suryakumar, and Hardik.
To address fan concerns after last season, MI provided clarity on their leadership and future plans.
