The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Monday that fast-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal will miss the two-Test series against Bangladesh.
Jamal was first chosen for the team, but his participation was contingent on receiving a fitness clearance. He had not fully healed from his back injury, so he was probably going to miss the first Test, which began in Rawalpindi on August 21. However, he is now also out of the second Test, which begins on August 30.
With 18 wickets in three Test matches during the away series in Australia in 2023–24, Jamal was Pakistan’s greatest wicket-taker. However, since May of this year, he has been battling lower back pain. His time playing many formats with Warwickshire in England was also impacted by the injury, which finally caused it to end. He didn’t play competitive cricket again until June.
Since Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam were both freed to play for the Shaheens, Pakistan will enter the first Test with 14 players, as Jamal was the only seam-bowling all-arounder in the team when he was first called up. For the first Test, Pakistan is also anticipated to select an all-seam attack. The other quicks in the team are Mohammad Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mir Hamza, and Khurram Shahzad.
With the goal of getting well before the October Test series against England, Jamal will now focus on improving his fitness at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
