In preparation for their move to Tier 1 for the upcoming season, Essex has named Sunrisers tandem Danni Warren and Andy Tennant to manage their women’s setup.
Warren will take on the position of performance director at Essex after serving as the regional director of women’s cricket for London and the east. After serving as Sunrisers’ head coach, Tennant, a former Scotland international, will assume the role of director of the Essex Women’s team.
“I’m incredibly excited to take on this new role with Essex Women as we enter a new era for the women’s professional game,” Tennant said. “Having worked with Danni and the majority of the staff and players at Sunrisers, I know the strength and potential of the team we’re building here.
“Our focus will be on creating an environment where players and staff can thrive and fulfil their potential, both on and off the field. This is a fantastic opportunity to drive towards sustainable success and help Essex Women become a leading force in the game, and I know we all can’t wait to get started.”
Prior to the 2023 season, Warren, who had been Sunrisers’ regional director since 2020, hired Tennant as coach. When Sunrisers defeated South East Stars in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy final last summer, they won the women’s regional era’s inaugural championship.
Earlier in the year, the ECB resumed organising women’s cricket inside the current county structure, and Essex was one of eight teams to be granted Tier 1 membership through a bidding procedure.
