Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer stated on Sunday that the team has a great chance to win a hat-trick of Test series against Australia provided the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj can remain fit for the duration of the series. The First Test, a day match that establishes the tone for the series, will kick off the much awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth Stadium on November 22 and last through November 26. The previous two series that India has played in Australia, in 2018–19 and 2020–21, have been won.
In response to a fan’s question regarding India’s prospects of winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this year, Jaffer emphasised the significance of having the speed three of Siraj, Bumrah-Shami, and Bumrah available.
Additionally, he stated that Mayank Yadav, the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) pace sensation who lit the league on fire with some excellent bowling performances despite some injuries, could be a “dark horse” contender to play in the series if he is healthy enough to do so. Arshdeep Singh could also provide a left-arm pace option.
“If Bumrah, Shami and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India have a great opportunity for a hat-trick down under. Arshdeep could bring the left-arm option. And Mayank Yadav dark horse provided he’s fit and available. #AUSvIND,” said Jaffer.
Under the stadium’s lights, the Second Test, which will be held at Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10, will feature an intriguing day-night format. Fans will then be concentrating on The Gabba in Brisbane, where the third Test is scheduled to take place from December 14–18 during the day.
The series culminates with the traditional Boxing Day Test, which is scheduled for December 26–30 at Melbourne’s iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The series finale, the Fifth Test, is scheduled to occur at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney from January 3 to January 7. It is expected to be a thrilling encounter with a dramatic finish.
